Making sense of Gambrinus Malting’s R&D with the CRA.

Canadian Government Funding and SR&ED Tax Credits > Insights > Case Studies > Making sense of Gambrinus Malting’s R&D with the CRA.

Gambrinus Malting partnered with Ayming to develop their first ever SR&ED claim. Gambrinus’ projects were very innovative, but because they contained technological advancements embedded in process improvements, the innovative aspects were a little more challenging to articulate within the “scientific-method” context favoured by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

As is often the case with first-time claimants in Canada, the claim was selected for a CRA Scientific Audit a few months after filing. By carefully coaching the company before the audit and efficiently collaborating with the CRA during the audit, Ayming ensured that Gambrinus Malting could explain their projects in a way the auditor could relate to within the rules of the SR&ED program. That approach resulted in an efficient audit process for all parties.

“We worked closely with the Ayming team for about a year, They were very professional, efficient and transparent. We ended up receiving 100% of the tax credits we applied for and we couldn’t be happier with the process.”

At the end of the process, the CRA granted 100% of the amounts claimed, to the great satisfaction of Gambrinus Malting. “We worked closely with the Ayming team for about a year,” said Ken Smith, Gambrinus Malting’s CEO. “They were very professional, efficient and transparent. We ended up receiving 100% of the credits we applied for and we couldn’t be happier with the process. We will continue our relationship with Ayming and would gladly recommend them to others.”
