This program provides funds to grow projects related to modernizing food safety systems through the adoption of new food safety equipment, structural facility modifications, and training.

Funding Alert: Food Safety and Growth Initiative – Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (SCAP)

The Food Safety and Growth Initiative program provides funds to grow projects related to modernizing food safety systems through the adoption of new food safety equipment, structural facility modifications, and training.

Application Deadline:

First come first served. Applications open on August 21, 2024, and will remain open until fully subscribed.

Program Objective

To stimulate growth in the agriculture and food sector through modernized food safety systems.

Program Funding Amount

  • 50% of eligible project costs up to $75,000 per project
  • Maximum of 2 projects under this initiative for a total of $150,000

Eligible Applicants: Food Safety and Growth Initiative – SCAP

Projects must take place at facilities that produce, process or service the following food products:

  • Foods of plant origin
  • Meat and Dairy
  • Ready-to-eat spreads

** Applicants must have fewer than 100 employees at the project location


Eligible Activities

  • Equipment to support food safety.
  • Develop or improve food safety systems, including traceability programs, certification, and third-party consulting costs.
  • Training directly related to the implementation of equipment, technology upgrades, and system improvements.
  • Structural modifications required to implement new equipment, technology upgrades, and system improvements.

Ineligible Activities

  • Activities related to aquaponic food production, or to aquaculture, seaweed, fish and seafood production and processing.
  • Subscription or cloud-based IT costs.
  • Costs related to installation of data collection, lab testing and surveillance equipment.
  • Costs related to removal of old equipment.
  • Leasing of equipment.
  • Agricultural machinery and equipment that is not stationary.
