Funding Alert: Green Freight Program: Stream 1

This program aims to increase the knowledge and capacity of the on-road freight transportation sector to adopt energy efficiency measures tailored to operational needs by providing financial support.

Funding Alert: Green Freight Program: Stream 1

The Green freight Program Stream 1, aims to increase the knowledge and capacity of the on-road freight transportation sector to adopt energy efficiency measures tailored to operational needs by providing financial support. The program is now accepting applications and we highly recommend you get in touch with us right away.

Application Deadline:

Continuous, first come, first served basis

Program Funding Amount

Grant funding up to a maximum of $250,000

  • Fleet Energy Assessments Program: up to 50%, to a maximum of $40,000.
  • Truck/Trailer Equipment Retrofits Program: 50% per device

Eligible Applicants: Green Freight Program: Stream 1

  • Operating in Canada
  • Must have one or more heavy-duty vehicles for business use in their fleet that is licensed and insured to operate in Canada

Note: Softwood lumber companies and those that are vertically integrated with softwood lumber companies are not eligible

Vehicle Eligibility

  • have been in service for a minimum of one year
  • Be within the eligible vehicles weight classes including Class 2B, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8

Funding Process

For Third Party Fleet Energy Assessments:

  1. Purchase and complete a third-party Fleet Energy Assessment that meets NRCan’s Assessment Criteria
  2. Email a signed and completed Application Form with all supporting documents

For Truck/Trailer Equipment Retrofits

  1. Have a valid Fleet Energy Assessment report that meets the minimum requirements in NRCan’s Fleet Energy Assessment Checklist
  2. Purchase and install the fuel-saving device(s), recommended in the Applicant’s Fleet Energy Assessment
  3. Email a signed and completed Application Form with all supporting documentation

Funding Activities

Third-Party Fleet Energy Assessment Grant:

Basic Third-Party Assessment:

  • The Third-Party Assessment must meet criteria for a Basic Fleet Assessment outlined in NRCan’s Fleet Energy Assessment Checklist including General Fleet Information, Technology Investment details and Data Analysis.

Enhances Third Party Assessment:

  • The Third-Party Assessment must meet criteria for the Enhanced Fleet Assessment outlined in NRCan’s Fleet Energy Assessment Checklist including General Fleet Information, Technology Investment details, Data Analysis and Data analysis for enhanced fleet assessments.

Truck/Trailer Equipment Retrofit Grant

Applicant’s fleet must undergo a Fleet Energy Assessment before they purchase any fuel-saving device(s) and the assessment must analyze and recommend the device(s) that the Applicant plans to purchase.

The devices eligible for grants are as follows:

  1. Aerodynamics Retrofit: Side Skirt, Boat Tail, Under Fairing, Tractor-Trailer Gap Reducer, Aero dynamic Splash Guard
  2. Anti-Idling Retrofit: Cab Heater, Cab Cooler, Coolant Heater
  3. Auxiliary Power unit Retrofit: Diesel/conventional APU, Electric APU, Electric APU paired with solar panel
  4. Tires Retrofit: Low rolling resistant tires, Automatic tire inflation system, Tire pressure monitoring system
  5. Other Devices: Diesel-electric refrigeration unit, Electric refrigeration unit and Telematics device.
