Funding Alert: Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (SCAP)

The Alberta Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) has launched programs to support processors and producers.

The Alberta Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) has launched programs to support processors and producers.

Processors: Supports the diversification and growth of Alberta’s value-added food and bio-industrial processors through investment in projects that increase company sales and production capacity, expand market opportunities, and create jobs in Alberta.

Producers: The On-Farm Program supports primary producers in adding value to their agricultural products to grow sales, expand production capacity, explore market opportunities and create jobs in Alberta.

Funding Amount

Cost share of 25% for capital costs, plus 50% of non-capital costs. Select your funding stream based on your project size:

  • Stream A – Projects up to $200K: Grants up to $50,000*
  • Stream B – Projects between $200K – $1M+: Grants up to $250,000*

*Non-capital costs capped at $50,000.

Eligible Applicants 

Agri-food processors and bio-industrial processors:

  • Registered and operating in Alberta.
  • Have $100K or greater in global annual gross sales (for Stream B).

Primary agricultural producers:

  • Registered and operating in Alberta.
  • Produce a minimum of $25K of commercial agricultural production annually.
  • Add value beyond harvest or slaughter of agricultural products.

Application Timeline

  • Stream A: Open now until funds are fully allocated
  • Stream B: April 15, 2024 – May 27, 2024

Eligible Projects

1) Processing Capacity Expansion

  • Processing equipment, software systems, third-party installation and engineering, training costs

2) Food Safety Improvement

  • Food safety equipment, audit and gap assessment, validation studies, certification audit for SQF and other food safety systems, training costs

3) New Product and Process Development

  • Sensory and shelf-life testing, validation of nutritional claims, scale-up trials, formulation development, first-time brand design and development, first run of labels and packaging printing up to 2,500 units

4) Market Development and Access

  • Feasibility studies, market readiness assessment, market export plans, design of market support materials for new product or market launches, first-time certification audit, e-commerce for new markets, in-store demonstrations, tradeshow and conference attendance
